What is off-gassing?

Off-gassing (also called outgassing) refers to the process by which a foam mattress releases a strong odor after being unboxed. This occurs when VOCs or volatile organic compounds break down. VOCs are not stable and break apart causing gasses to be released. After the manufacturing process, the mattress is shipped to the customer and upon removing the mattress from its box, the final phase of the mattresses off gassing will occur. The smell will generally dissipate after 7 days of placing the mattress in a well-ventilated room. The odor is not toxic but it may be unpleasant.

Does the Emma Original Mattress smell?

Like all new products, the Emma Original Mattress has a slight "new" smell at the start. Since we exclusively use high-grade materials, this slight smell will wear off after the first few hours. Make sure the mattress is aired out in a well-ventilated room. If the smell does not fade away, please wash the mattress cover or put the mattress on the balcony or terrace for a few hours and it will disappear.

You can try our Emma Original Mattress for 100 nights and if you decide that you don’t like it, you can ask for a return and full refund!
